RODD & STAFF
A large part of my work is based upon knowing what tools and technologies are available, how they work, how to apply and adapt them to various environment.  These general requires me to follow a long doctrine of research and analysis.

This, of course, one of my favorite aspects of the job.

The downside has always been the way the information I retrieve gets filed, shuffled, and sometimes lost.  So I needed a solution.
RODD & STAFF is what has been referred to as a Personal Learning Environment.  A simple method for researching and controlling your data.

I use a number of software packages both locally based (Windows) and Server based (AMP) to try and capture the information that I filter through my mind.  In all, between the database applications, notebook style software, and various web based systems I have tried over 60 methods for tracking and controlling my thought process.

It's a difficult task.  From individual project to fleeting business concepts glimpses I have yet to anchor myself to any one all purpose does everything I need to get it done product.  Since I capture ideas, concepts, and thoughts with a number of tools: tape recorder, paper notebooks (yes, more than one), and have more than one computer I may be using, a lot goes into turning my ideas into finished products.

Apparently, I'm not alone.  There are numerous people that are also looking for a method that brings all the tools for personal knowledge management.

RODD & STAFF is my current attempt to generate a working method for capturing, organizing, and utilizing the countless tidbits of data and tasks associated with all the projects that I have going on.  From web research to book notes to graphics, audio, and video, my information is could be in any format at anytime and stored anywhere.  R&S I hope will solve this problem.

RODD is an acronym for Research Oriented Development Device
STAFF is an acronym for Simple Tasks Associated with Files and Filters

Together the plan is to develop a client side unit which tracks the tidbits regardless of file format and data style and be able to group all related files, stores, text, and so forth into a usable format that can provide a framework for not only getting the job done but export to web based format in a completed form.

At this moment, R&S is early stages of planning but I will keep you informed of updates as well as the various tools I test.

Trying to make data collection easier and more fun.  If it is not result-oriented, it doesn't serve a purpose.
